Their debut season in the Veikkausliiga was in 2005, and IFK Mariehamn managed to establish themselves as a consistent, albeit modest, top-flight club. Their primary goal each season became retaining their Veikkausliiga status. In 2007, the operations of the representative team were corporatized with the formation of IFK Mariehamn Ab to ensure greater financial stability and professional management, further cementing their commitment to professional football. Over the next decade, the club cemented its place in the top flight, with notable high finishes, including 4th place in 2013, which earned them a spot in the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds via the UEFA Fair Play ranking—their first taste of European competition.

2015: Finnish Cup Triumph
The club captured its first major piece of silverware by winning the Finnish Cup (Suomen Cup). They defeated Inter Turku 2-1 in the final, securing their first title and another ticket to the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.
2016: The Impossible Championship
The following year brought the most astonishing achievement: winning the Veikkausliiga Championship. Against all odds and with a significantly smaller budget than their mainland competitors, IFK Mariehamn, led by the managerial duo of Peter Lundberg and Kari Virtanen (who took over from the retiring Pekka Lyyski), finished the season in first place. They clinched the title on the final matchday with a decisive 2-1 victory over FC Ilves at their home ground, the Wiklöf Holding Arena.

The victory earned them a place in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds in 2017, where they faced Polish giants Legia Warsaw.
